Q: What are the different
framing options available at The Great Frame Up?
A: Since 1971, Do-It-Yourself framing has
been offered in all our stores.
It is a fun and fast way to save on the labor expense
of framing by doing all or part of the assembly yourself. We cut
all the materials and give you step-by-step assistance with the
assembly of the finished piece. There are several different Do-It-Yourself
service levels available.
On the Spot
framing for a customer, with assistance from our design staff,
that selects the materials, waits for the staff to cut them and
then receives step by step instructions on how to easily build
the frame and assemble a finished piece. The customer puts the
frame together in a vise, cleaning the glass and assembling the
artwork into the frame. Our staff is here to help you and assist
with every step.
We also offer On
the Spot service for mattes,
glass and mounting.
Cut & Keep
Do-It-Yourself orders are placed and completed by the customer
on a different day. You select your materials, we cut and keep
your order until you have a convenient time to come back and complete
your framed masterpiece.
Build Wood Only
Do-It-Yourself orders are for a customer that doesn’t feel
comfortable or have the time to actually make the frame. For a
small charge, The Great Frame Up staff will build your frame and
then you do the rest of the assembly. This service can be done
while you wait.
Custom Framing service is available too.
Custom orders are projects that are completed entirely
by our staff. There is a labor charge for this service that is
dependent on the size and complexity of the project. The turnaround
time on custom orders is usually a week or based on when you need
it. |
Q: Beyond artwork, what other kinds
of things are suitable for framing?
A: Just about anything can be framed and
cherished.
Beyond
flat works of art and photographs, The Great Frame Up specializes
in creating unique shadow boxes to capture and keep your memorabilia
for a life time…from a wedding dress that was in the attic
to jewelry your grandmother gave you to a collection of silverware
passed down from generation to generation.
(Actually from our experience, sports memorabilia are the
most commonly framed items.)
How do you start? First, gather everything that
you feel should go into a shadow box. You may think some items
wouldn’t work in a frame treatment, but they could add a
very special touch. Bring all your items into our stores and let
the designing begin. This is a hands on, personal experience.
You will be surprised at what can be framed and the wonderful
results that you can look at forever.
Here is a short list
of some of the things that have been framed at The Great Frame
Up since we started in 1971:
> A piece of a grille from a 1966 Cadillac
> An Aborigine loin cloth from Africa
> A 100 year old collection of silver spoons
> Pieces of the Wall of China
> Bricks from Old Comiskey Park
> And, of course, wine labels |
